Apocalíptico, controversial y obstinado aspirante a la presidencia de Estados Unidos. Así fue la vida de Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr., quien falleció este martes a los 96 años tras una larga vida marcada por las polémicas teorías conspirativas de un personaje que tuvo desde filiaciones trotskistas hasta posturas de ultraderecha.
Su muerte fue anunciada el miércoles en la página web de su organización política, La Rouche/Pac, que no detalló el lugar ni las causas del deceso. En los últimos años, se mudó a una propiedad con fuertes medidas de seguridad en Virginia. "La humanidad ha sufrido una gran pérdida y, hoy nos dedicamos nuevamente a hacer realidad las grandes ideas por las cuales la historia lo honrará", apuntó La Rouche/Pac.
Entre sus teorías destacaban la de que la reina británica Isabel II era una traficante de drogas, líder de una organización criminal. Conocido anglófobo, también sostenía que el calentamiento global era una farsa inventada por la monarquía británica y los comunistas para afectar el desarrollo estadounidense, una teoría similar a la esbozada por Donald Trump, quien en cambio culpó a China.
Además, aseguraba que el Fondo Monetario Internacional creó y propagó el VIH, y proponía que todos los enfermos sean aislados, bajo el lema "¡Contagien el pánico, no el SIDA!".
LaRouche nació en 1922 en Nuevo Hampshire y creció en el seno de una familia anticomunista y devota del culto de los cuáqueros (o "tembladores").
En su juventud abrazó el ideario de izquierda y se afilió a un grupo trotskista estadounidense, pero tras una estadía en la República Federal Alemana regresó a EEUU con ideas de ultraderecha y antisemitas.
Fue entonces cuando creció su influencia y la de sus teorías conspirativas en la política estadounidense. LaRouche aspiró a la Casa Blanca en ocho ocasiones entre 1976 y 2004, las siete últimas participando en las primarias del Partido Demócrata.

Su mejor resultado fue en las de 1984, cuando alcanzó a reunir 76.000 votos presentándose como un "demócrata conservador".
Los afiliados a su corriente tuvieron un gran impacto en las primarias demócratas durante la década de 1980, con porcentajes importantes y logrando docenas de nominaciones a cargos locales.
Según la biografía Lyndon LaRouche and the New American Fascism escrita en 1989 por Dennis King, estos afiliados "hicieron incursiones extraordinarias en la política estadounidense, superando los logros de cualquier otro movimiento extremista en la historia reciente de Estados Unidos".
LaRouche aseguraba que numerosos altos cargos estadounidenses eran agentes soviéticos infiltrados y que la CIA, la KGB y la inteligencia británica conspiraban para asesinarlo.
En 1988 fue condenado a 15 años de cárcel por evasión fiscal y fraude postal, de los que cumplió cinco. Desde las prisión federal Rochester en Minesota, LaRouche se lanzó a las elecciones al Congreso de 1990 y a la Casa Blanca de 1992.
Su compañero de litera, el telepredicador evangelista Jim Bakker, dijo al Washington Post que LaRouche creía que la celda tenía micrófonos escondidos. "Decir que Lyndon era un poco paranoico es como decir que el Titanic tenía una pequeña filtración", aseguró.
De la familia Bush decía que fueron "colaboradores de los Nazis" durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y al ex presidente Barack Obama primero le alertó de que el "Imperio Británico quería asesinarlo", para después pedir su "impeachment".
Sobre el actual presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, LaRouche dijo: "Desde William McKinley que ningún presidente ha tenido tan claro su intento de devolver la nación a la tradición económica de Alexander Hamilton, poner fin a las políticas de libre comercio imperial británico y comprometerse plenamente con la industria, la manufactura, el avance científico y la paz mundial".

Apocalyptic, controversial and stubborn candidate for the presidency of the United States. This was the life of Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr., who died this Tuesday at the age of 96 after a long life marked by the controversial conspiracy theories of a character who had from Trotskyist affiliations to far-right positions.
His death was announced on Wednesday on the website of his political organization, La Rouche / Pac, which did not detail the place or causes of death. In recent years, he has moved into a heavily secured property in Virginia. "Humanity has suffered a great loss and today we rededicate ourselves to realizing the great ideas for which history will honor it," said La Rouche / Pac.
Among his theories stood out that the British Queen Elizabeth II was a drug dealer, leader of a criminal organization. A well-known Anglophobe, he also argued that global warming was a sham invented by the British monarchy and communists to affect American development, a theory similar to that outlined by Donald Trump, who instead blamed China.
In addition, he claimed that the International Monetary Fund created and spread HIV, and proposed that all patients be isolated, under the slogan "Spread panic, not AIDS!"
LaRouche was born in 1922 in New Hampshire and grew up in an anti-communist family devoted to the cult of the Quakers (or "shakers").
In his youth he embraced the ideology of the left and joined an American Trotskyist group, but after a stay in the Federal Republic of Germany he returned to the United States with far-right and anti-Semitic ideas.
It was then that his influence and that of his conspiracy theories in American politics grew. LaRouche ran for the White House eight times between 1976 and 2004, the last seven participating in the Democratic Party primaries.

His best result was in 1984, when he managed to garner 76,000 votes by presenting himself as a "conservative Democrat."
His current affiliates had a major impact in the Democratic primaries during the 1980s, with significant percentages and garnering dozens of nominations for local office.
According to Dennis King's 1989 biography Lyndon LaRouche and the New American Fascism, these affiliates "made extraordinary inroads into American politics, surpassing the achievements of any other extremist movement in recent American history."
LaRouche claimed that many top US officials were undercover Soviet agents and that the CIA, KGB, and British intelligence were plotting to assassinate him.
In 1988 he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for tax evasion and mail fraud, of which he served five. From the Rochester federal prison in Minnesota, LaRouche ran for the 1990 Congressional elections and the 1992 White House elections.
His bunkmate, evangelical telepreacher Jim Bakker, told the Washington Post that LaRouche believed the cell had hidden microphones. "To say that Lyndon was a little paranoid is like saying that the Titanic had a little leak," he said.
He said about the Bush family that they were "collaborators of the Nazis" during World War II and he first alerted former President Barack Obama that the "British Empire wanted to assassinate him", and then asked for his "impeachment".
On current US President Donald Trump, LaRouche said: "Since William McKinley, no president has been so clear about his intent to return the nation to the economic tradition of Alexander Hamilton, end British imperial free trade policies, and fully commit to with industry, manufacturing, scientific advancement, and world peace. "
